Resonating with that, Chomsky said something to the effect that, yes, he does believe that something sinister and orchestrated does live, in some degree or other, in our world-systems. But he feels it better not to waste too much time on that, and instead to focuse on building something better.
Both are surely right, and yet myself, I’ve always had a hunger to know what’s really going on. And I’ve learned some things that are pretty uncomfortable.
The resolution of that, for me, is to think not of fighting the old, or the sinister, or the manipulative, or the dysfunctional, or whatever it is. It is a feeling that merely seeing those things more clearly at once begins to dissolve them, and strongly motivates the effort toward ‘building the new’.
"Seeing those things more clearly" necessitates shining the light on those things. What better way to disinfect and dissolve darkness? I love this Socrates quote. Makes me think of a theatre improv game called "Yes!" that I'd like to share with my readers. I feel another essay coming on... :-) Thanks for this, Michael!
